Summer - Ready skin: Botox, filler & skincare tips for the warmer months

Let’s be real—summer in Kansas isn’t exactly gentle on your skin. Between the sun, sweat, and all the time we (finally) get to spend outside, this season can bring a few extra challenges when it comes to maintaining that fresh, smooth look you love.

Here’s the good news: with a little prep (and some help from tox, filler, and smart skincare), you can keep your glow going all summer long. Whether you're poolside, on vacation, or just soaking up the sunshine at home, here’s how to get your skin summer-ready.

1. Timing Your Botox + Filler Appointments

Planning ahead is your best friend when it comes to injectables in the summer:

  • Book 2–3 weeks before big events or trips. Botox takes about 7–10 days to fully kick in, and filler may cause some swelling or bruising that needs a little time to settle.

  • Avoid the sun immediately after. Sun exposure can increase the risk of inflammation or discoloration after injectables. Give your skin a few days to chill post-treatment before heading into direct sunlight.

  • Stay cool post-injection. No saunas, hot yoga, or laying out for 24–48 hours after Botox or filler—heat can worsen swelling.

2. Tweak Your Skincare Routine

What worked for your skin in winter might feel heavy or clogging in summer. A few warm-weather swaps we love:

  • Lighten up your moisturizer. Look for gel or water-based options that hydrate without feeling greasy.

  • Use a vitamin C serum. It helps protect against sun damage, brightens the skin, and works beautifully under SPF.

  • Don’t skip retinoids—just be smart about it. If you're using retinol, make sure to wear SPF daily (more on that next), and consider cutting back to a few nights a week if you're getting irritated from heat or sun.

3. SPF. Every. Single. Day.

We know, we know—you’ve heard this before. But summer isn’t the time to get lax with sunscreen. UV exposure not only speeds up aging but also breaks down collagen (which you're investing in with filler!). Here's the SPF breakdown:

  • Go broad-spectrum. That means it protects against both UVA (aging) and UVB (burning) rays.

  • Use at least SPF 30. And yes, higher is even better if you’re spending time outdoors.

  • Reapply. Every 2 hours if you're outside. Setting sprays and powder sunscreens make it easy to reapply over makeup.

4. Don’t Forget Your Lips

Filler season is year-round, and summer is the perfect time for subtle hydration and volume. Bonus: hydrated lips always look better with SPF lip balm (and a good gloss).

If you’re planning lip filler, same rules apply—give yourself a little buffer before big events and stay out of the sun for a couple days post-treatment.

5. Stay Hydrated from the Inside Out

It’s not just about what goes on your skin—hydration plays a huge role in how your skin looks and feels, especially in the summer heat.

  • Drink water like it’s your job.

  • Limit salty foods and alcohol right before treatments (they can increase swelling).

  • Keep a mist or hydrating toner in your bag for mid-day refreshes.
